Beginner to intermediate rock climbing skills required. Hard. Technical and/or vertical, and may have overhangs. These hard climbs require specific climbing skills that most weekend climbers can attain. Hard to Difficult.   Scramble up the gully, climbing slabs and around boulders, and following cairns for about an hour. The next section climbs a pitch up a dark chimney system for 45 meters. Continue scrambling and climbing easy rock (may need to rope up). Climb a pitch up the “three-step chimney,” then a squeeze chimney.

Peak won the National Outdoor Book Award (Children's Category). ReferencesAuthor: Roland Smith. This is one of the weakest climbing guide books I own. It's a small step up from a bunch of topo maps stabled together.

While the book is fine for telling you which climbs a certain cliff contains, most of the climb descriptions are weak or non-existent. The authors purposefully omit topos for many easy classic climbs like Cathedral Peak/5(5).

Peak Rock is a celebration of significant developments at the cutting edge of rock climbing in the Peak District, from the day that James W Puttrell first set foot on rock at Wharncliffe in the late nineteenth century, through to modern day ascents on the area’s gritstone and limestone crags.

Finalist in the Banff Mountain Book Competition. As has been suggested above, for one volume to begin with, I'd go for "On Peak Rock" or the even older Paul Nunn selected guide book "Rock Climbing in the Peak District". Both should be available on-line from the usual 2nd hand book sites for a couple of quid.

If there's a more modern single volume for Peak lime and grit I don't know about it. Buy On Peak Rock: The Best Rock Climbs of the Peak District ( of the best gritstone & limestone climbs) Revised edition by Dawson, Carl, BMC Guidebook Committee (ISBN: ) from Amazon's Book Store.
